In Our Days of Burning

choreography: Miriam Wolf
venue: Dixon Place, NYC
live video: Victoria Bradbury

Miriam Wolf's In Our Days of Burning at Dixon Place expanded upon the collaboration we began in The Summit (2009).

Inspired by the closed-door McCarthy Hearings, In Our Days Of Burning investigates the relationship between interrogator and respondent and the tenuous fabric between a lie and the truth.

The jumping-off point for the live video was a pot of carnations in a found film clip of McCarthy speaking at a podium. I repeated, degraded, overlayed and mixed the carnation imagery throughout the piece. Found footage of the McCarthy hearings waere mixed with Quicktimes generated during The Summit and video captured of the three "Burning" dancers during rehearsals and the live performance.
