WHAT DEFUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD REALLY MEANS

And why you WON'T want it to shut down, April 19, 2022

When a lot of pro-lifers think about Planned Parenthood, they think of the place where people go to drop off their unborn babies. They scream in the faces of whoever walks inside. Unbeknownst to them, some people may be going in for an HIV screening, or getting their mammogram. Not EVERYONE goes into planned parenthood to get an abortion.

Believe it or not, defunding Planned Parenthood isn’t what it sounds like. Defunding refers to Planned Parenthood not being able to be reimbursed for providing services to people who rely on Medicaid insurance, or are eligible for free or reduced fee services via the Title X program. Planned Parenthood would lose roughly $750,000 Annually, which is 30% of their budget.

Now, what does Title X Have to do with this?

Title X is the ONLY federal program that assists people with health services, and prioritizes those who are uninsured and lower income families. Cutting Planned Parenthood out of this program would restrict the services Planned Parenthood provides(More on that below) in lower income communities that may not be accessible in any other clinic. (If there even ARE any other clinics around.) Planned Parenthood proudly serves roughly 1.4 Million people through Title X, and Planned Parenthood Serves 41% of the programs’ patients.

Now, what services does Planned Parenthood provide BESIDES abortions? I’ll tell ya:

  • Mammograms
  • STD testing, Vaccines, and treatments
  • Cervical Cancer Screenings
  • Colonoscopies
  • Pap Tests
  • UTI Testing and Treatment
  • Adoption Services
  • Childbirth classes
  • Ultrasounds
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Pregnancy Planning Services
  • Erectile Dysfunction Education and Treatment
  • Men’s Sterilization
  • Prostate Cancer Screenings
  • Support Groups for LGBT individuals
  • HIV Services
  • And believe it or not, that is just SOME of the work the angels at Planned Parenthood do!

Restricting lower income families and individuals from those basic healthcare needs is a bit messed up in my opinion!
