ABOUT

This idea came from a random word generator I found on the internet. I was having trouble coming up with a concept at the time, so I figured a random algorithm on the internet would have my best interests at heart. Somehow I randomly generated the words "ghost", "train", and "burial", which are awesome no matter what context you use them in. The story went from there. I always loved the old pixel games involving "other" worlds with ghosts in plain sight. Or alternate dream universes. Stuff like that. "My Big Sister" actually is a game I kind of based this idea around, in an incredibly loose way.

The plot is kind of simple, but I only had roughly three weeks to make this. I'm still proud of the effort I put in. I have an entire story planned out in my head but as it stands right now I might be able to completely finish one or two paths. I'll definitely revisit and finish this, however.

I wanted the style of the game to be simple but vaguely nostalgic, even if one has never even seen an old Macintosh computer graphic (I've never even seen one in person). I also love ascii art so I incorporated it into the backgrounds. Creating the backgrounds are actually a pain in the ass but in an oddly satisfying way. I traced the outlines of similar looking background photos and tweaked them to how I wanted, then put it through an ascii art generator. From there, I took a screencap of the ascii, put it in photoshop and animated anything that needed animating (the main train corridor is an example). It creates a really interesting look that I really enjoy. I hope you do/did as well!
