Understanding Eddy

Finding Eddy’s Labyrinth is a graphic novel about a cat named Eddy. Eddy was once a
normal cat a very long time ago, but he found himself infatuated with humans and their
unique bodies, to the point where he wanted to be one himself. Most of the lore behind this
is kept secret, but what is known is that he lives in a labyrinth only accessible to the few
who are able to find it. Though Eddy just recently became quite popular in high school
gossip, you know how kids love their cryptids. Those who lived through his game said that
Eddy was actually quite charming, but only if you close your eyes, since what you see will
scar you for life. Victims of Eddy include many, but he picks and chooses what parts he
wants from each human he kills, if any (he is very picky in that respect). *It is said that Eddy
has the smooth voice of an exotic animal hunter who went looking for Eddy back in the 1950’s.*

This concept came from an earlier project that I worked on for this class, my Choose
your own Adventure. I wanted to actually be able to draw Eddy and not just use ascii art,
so I did just that. I think the Eddy before was much more silly and cute, but his words
gave off a tone of malice. Now I think it’s a little more complex than that. Outwardly,
his appearance is terrifying and his voice is charming, but his words are a little more
manipulative (though I wasn’t able to progress that far into the story). As for the actual
look of the project, I just wanted to make it as unsettling as possible, and I think that I
accomplished that. I enjoy the color purple and thought keeping it monochromatic would give
it this eerie, otherworldly feeling. Adding to that eerie feeling, I made all of the panels have a
fuzzy TV filter to give it even more of that feeling of farawayness. The music also really helps
to bring you there and make you uncomfortable, so be sure to wear headphones and remember
to click those little speaker buttons!
