Squeak the tabby cat, who once resided with me, recently lived a saga where she adopted first a pompom and then a wolf beanie baby as her children. She slept with them and carried them around, and generally was adorable with them for a while. The current parent of Squeak got a lot of pictures of this time, and I decided to make this into my graphic novel.

Each picture in the graphic novel was made by clipping an image of Squeak, Pompom, or Wolf and placing it over new backgrounds. They represent moving through space. The first page shows this perfectly: Pompom is lost on blue carpet and Squeak has to travel through two floral patterns to find Pompom and bring them back. The color backgrounds are changed on each page to provide new scenery and match with a different color scheme. The tabby fur background remains on all of them to provide unity.

While the story can generally be understood without the text, it can be found very easily by hovering over any image. Squeak speaks in a flowing green font, Pompom in a childish blue font, and Wolf in a round red font. The backgrounds of each page represent the interaction of the characters, the first page with Squeak and Pompom has a cyan background, while the second page with Squeak and Wolf has a yellow background. The third page has a purple background to represent the new bond between Wolf and Pompom.

The overall idea of this project was to play with collage style pictures and interactivity with the story through hovers. While each picture works sequentially, they all tell their own story, and the hovers help expand on them no matter what order they're read in. Additionally, I worked with the coding to make the flexboxes and pictures scale with the page and attempted to use appealing patterns of images, so that the whole looks as good as each individual picture.
