For this project, you will build a navigable outdoor environment for the HTC Vive using the Unreal Engine.

Your project will allow a user to walkthrough and navigate your outdoor space. It must make use of a teleportation mechanic for users to explore an area at least four times the size of our room-scale play area in the VR lab.

Accompany your final project submission with a 60-90 second "Walkthrough" video that documents the experience of navigating your piece (this is due one week after your critique date). Also submit a 300-word paragraph describing the concept for your environment and your production process.

This project may not take the form of a first-person shooter.

Suggestions for implementation.

Your depiction/rendering of this outdoor space may fall anywhere on the spectrum of realistic to abstract.

You may make use of imported models, create your own using Maya, Blender (open source) or another 3D Modeling program, or use a combination of made and found models.

Follow the tutorial "Unreal Essential Training" for additional demonstrations of working with outdoor environments in Unreal 4.

Consider what an outdoor environment can be - what is the motivation for placing a viewer there? What might they find? Are there incentives that will entice them to keep exploring this space? Are there discoveries that are surprising or mysterious along the way? Memory of an outdoor space can be a good starting point.

Remember: Your are not a studio. You are a small team just learning the tools with a few weeks to make a project. Draw on your strengths, manage your expectations and use your limitations to your creative advantage. Every new tool requires baby steps and building blocks to learn and acquire skill.
